finch software package provides text-based multi-protocol instant messaging client, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install finch
finch is installed in your system.
Make ensure the finch package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep finch *
You will get with finch package name, version, architecture and description in a table
